The long term arrivals data indicates that in terms of seasonality, the
highest arrival months from 1995 to 2004 were mostly December, followed
by July while the lowest arrivals months had been recorded as October and
May.

During 2004, the analysis of seasonality in arrivals from top ten tourist
generating countries shows that USA, Germany and Canada, peaked in
December, UK in July, Afghanistan in January, India in June, China in
March, Japan in May, Norway in June and the Netherlands in July &
December while bottom arrivals months were October for UK, USA,
Canada, Norway and the Netherlands, December for Afghanistan, January
for India and Japan, May for Germany, and November for China. ( See table
2.4 of appendix). The seasonality of tourist flows to Pakistan is determined
by a number of factors such as the timing of closure of educational
institutions in the main generating countries, climatic conditions in Pakistan
and seasonal pattern in the main tourists generating countries.

Point of Entry:

In 2004, the highest number of foreign tourists (208.4 thousand or
32.2) percent) came through Islamabad International Airport, which was
followed by Quaid-e-Azam International Airport Karachi (178.4 thousand or
27.5 percent), Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore (132.9 thousand or
20.5 percent), Torkham Check Post, Khyber Agency (74.5 thousand or 11.5
percent), Chaman check post (22.4 thousand or 3.5 percent) and Peshawar
Airport (15.3 thousand or 2.4 percent), (See Table No. 2.5 of Appendix for
details).

The indices of long term trends in tourist arrivals by point of entry
between 1995 and 2004 are reflected in the Table No. 2.6 of Appendix,
while indices of tourist arrivals by point of entry during 2003 and 2004 are
