PlA's interest in the promotion of sports in Pakistan goes far beyond the cricket fields and the hockey arenas. The Bicycle Tour along the Silk Route, which PIA has organised with great success over the years is a prime example of this wide ranging interest.

The Bicycle Tour provides an excellent opportunity for those who like cycling as a sport, and for the adventurous. This tour attracts some of the world's famous cyclists alongwith a host of thrill seekers.

Not surprisingly, on this tour, one gets to see the enthralling natural beauty of Pakistan's North-West real close. The Silk Route winds its way through some of the most spectacular scenic spots: the beautiful Swat Valley; the splendour of Gilgit, the awe-inspiring mountains and the sparkling rivers. Participants are also able to not only see, but also travel along, the Eighth Wonder of the world, the Karakoram Highway, as well as cycling to the Pak-China border at Khunjerab Pass.

Tour Itinerary

Day 01 - Islamabad City sightseeing tour.

Day 02 - Peshawar Drive to Peshawar

Day 03 - Mardan & Saidu(Swat) Drive to Mardan. Bicycle tour to Saidu begins from here. Enroute brief stopover at Takht-e-Bahi, an excavated Bhuddist University, 13 km. past Mardan and MalakandPass.(100 km. Maximum altitude 1219 meters)

Day 04 - Besham Resume cycle ride to Besham 108 k.m. to the north-east of Saidu. (108 km. Maximum altitude 2120 meters).

Day 05 - Chilas Bicycle tour to Chilas begins on the Karakoram Highway (193 km. Maximum altitude 884 meters).

Day 06 - Gilgit Continue bicycle ride to Gilgit (150k.m.Maximum altitude 884 meters).

Day 07 - Karimabad Resume cycle ride to Karimabad, the spectacular capital of Hunza (125 kilometers. Maximum altitude 2408 meters).

Day 08 - Sust Cycle ride to the Sust Check Post at the Chinese border. (108 kilometers. Maximum altitude 2804 meters).

Day 09 - Khunjerab Bicycle excursion to Khunjerab Pass, 4800 meters above sea level(166 kilometers, maximum altitude 4800 meters).

Day 10 - Begin the descent back to Gilgit (108 kilometers Maximum altitude 4800 meters) via Karimabad.

Day 11 - Karimabad Day free

Day 12 - Gilgit Continue bicycle ride down the Karakoram Highway (125 kilometers, maximum altitude 2408 meters).

Day 13 - Islamabad Weather permitting, fly to Islamabad. In case of flight cancellation, the group will be transferred by road at an additional cost (16-hours drive).

Day 14 - Islamabad Day Free back home.
