Translated into Urdu Hindi Tamil SindhiAaya – The Willing Slave
The story of a woman who spent her whole life serving others, until her body could no longer carry her loyalty.
In the town of Malgudi, there lived an old woman everyone called Aaya. Her real name was forgotten long ago. All her life, she served one family after another — cooking, cleaning, comforting, and caring.
She began her life as a helper in a wealthy house, caring for young children. She stayed as they grew up, and later took care of their children too. She had no family of her own. Her life was fully devoted to others.
Years went by. Her body aged, her hair turned white, her hands shook. But still, she worked quietly. She was never paid much, but she never asked for more. She believed that her duty was enough.
Eventually, the family she served moved away. They said they’d take her with them, but Aaya was too weak to travel. So she stayed behind, sitting alone on the steps of the old house — waiting for someone to call her again.
One quiet morning, Aaya passed away — just as quietly as she had lived. A life of sacrifice, of silent service, came to an end.
