The tourists Visiting Friends & Relatives (VFR) in Pakistan do not spend

much on lodging and boarding. Most of the tourists coming from India,
Bangladesh, U.K. and Afghanistan are described as low revenue tourists.

Foreign Exchange Receipts

The source of information is the monthly report on foreign exchange

receipts prepared by the State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi booked under
column "Travel" in accordance with the I.M.F. system of classification. These
include data on foreign exchange purchased from authorised money dealers
and commercial banks by tourists either directly or indirectly.

B - Sources of Data

Foreign Tourist Arrivals

(a)

The source of information for tourist arrivals (viz volume) is the
embarkation and disembarkation cards filled-in by the foreign
visitors at all the border check-posts. Data from these cards is
compiled by Federal Investigation Agency (an organization of
the Ministry of Interior).

(b) Data on (i) motivation, (ii) age and sex distribution, (iii)

occupation, (iv) Places visited and (v) expenditure etc, has been
derived from the findings of 'Foreign Tourism Survey', conducted
in 2000.

Domestic Tourism

The quantum and features of "Domestic Tourism" are estimated on the

basis of overall passenger traffic, according to the methodology used in
Domestic Tourism Survey 2000.
