Forts in Cholistan Desert Pakistan
Cholistan is a mismerising desert in the central province of Punjab,
Pakistan. Alexander the great during his conquest of the world in 326BC,
conquered Uch Fort in the Cholistan region of Pakistan and stayed there for some
time.
There are forts in every part of Pakistan in Cholistan there are 29 forts.
Roads from Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan lead to these forts built
towards the desert.
There are also palaces, mosques, monasteries, shrines and other historic
buildings, but over time, due to neglect and lack of proper maintenance, many
have fallen into disrepair and turned into piles of mud and sand.

Islamgarh Fort
This fort was built in 1665 by Raja Rawal under the name of Bhimvar in the
east of Khanpur tehsil of Rahim Yar Khan district in the Cholistan desert.
However, in 1766, Ikhtiar Khan Mandhani, the chief of Garhi Ikhtiar Khan,
conquered the fort and renamed it Islamgarh. He also built a well and a mosque
inside the fort. The fort is located very close to the Pak-India border (10 km
away). The fort was also shelled during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 and 1971.

Fort Nawab Kot
Fort Nawankot in Cholistan is spread over 156 square meters inwards. Its
construction is made of mud bricks with mud. The 45-diameter towers were built
on all four corners, but due to neglect, this historical heritage came to the
brink of destruction.
The entrance is 10 feet wide, and on either side of it were lined with guard
rooms. Solid bricks were used in the construction of these rooms. In the center
of the fort, along the west wall, are the remains of five rooms.

Ghauri. It was later rebuilt by Raja Tanu, son of Raja Kahar. The fort was
renamed Beja Note which became Bjnot over time. It was rebuilt in 1757 by Moria
Dad Putra.
Limestone was used in the construction of this fort which spread up to 300
feet on all sides. Its walls are up to 21 feet high, and to the north is an
11-foot-wide entrance, surrounded by three rooms. It now exists in ruins but
reflects the glory of its past.

Fort Khairgarh
The fort was built in 1775, miles away from the population in the Cholistan
Desert. It is said that this fort was built by Haji Khan Mandhani Dawood Pota,
son of Ikhtiar Khan. This fort, like other small forts in Cholistan, was built
from a defensive point of view. It stretches 170 feet inwards on all four sides.
The fort was built of mud and bricks, with a pond. Some parts of the fort
wall were also paved, while the entrance was fortified and there was a
residential part above it. This entrance has a beautiful design made of bricks.
